M. Grant |
 |
A freelance
writer, editor and fundraiser for 15 years, Gay M. Grant is the author
of Along the Kennebec: The Herman Bryant Collection (1995:
Arcadia Publishers).
Grant honed her wordsmith skills while serving as copy editor for
the Capital Weekly, a regional broadsheet newspaper. She
also wrote news and feature stories, took photographs and was responsible
for the most-read section of the newspaper – the obituaries.
Grant assisted the editor with layout, design and production, and
served as substitute editor. In 2001, the Capital Weekly
was named Maine Press Association’s “Best Weekly Maine
Newspaper.” |

| Grant
is also a skilled fundraiser with impressive results to her credit.
For example, in just two years, her grant-writing and fundraising
skills secured more than a million dollars
for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Gardiner. Grant
was the lead writer and project coordinator for Greater Waterville
Communities for Children’s successful bid for a $500,000 Drug-Free
Communities Support Program grant. |

| Along
with grant writing, Grant continues freelance writing and is at work
on another book. She earned her BA in history at the University of
Southern Maine. |

| On
the personal side, Grant is also a well-known vocalist and sings with
the classic rock, soul and blues band, “Pat
Colwell and the Soul Sensations.” |
