Gay M. Grant
A freelance writer, editor and fundraiser for 15 years, Gay M. Grant is the author of Along the Kennebec: The Herman Bryant Collection (1995: Arcadia Publishers).
Grant honed her wordsmith skills while serving as copy editor for the Capital Weekly, a regional broadsheet newspaper. She also wrote news and feature stories, took photographs and was responsible for the most-read section of the newspaper – the obituaries. Grant assisted the editor with layout, design and production, and served as substitute editor. In 2001, the Capital Weekly was named Maine Press Association’s “Best Weekly Maine Newspaper.”

Grant is also a skilled fundraiser with impressive results to her credit. For example, in just two years, her grant-writing and fundraising skills secured more than a million dollars for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Gardiner. Grant was the lead writer and project coordinator for Greater Waterville Communities for Children’s successful bid for a $500,000 Drug-Free Communities Support Program grant.
Along with grant writing, Grant continues freelance writing and is at work on another book. She earned her BA in history at the University of Southern Maine.
On the personal side, Grant is also a well-known vocalist and sings with the classic rock, soul and blues band, “Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations.”
